It sure does seem like they make kids get tested a lot! Today we met with the evaluator for the school system. Hailey's time with First Steps is quickly coming to a close (they don't work with kids once they hit their 3rd birthday) so our options were to get her evaluated by the school or to just stop therapy altogether. Honestly she has been doing SO well that I considered letting it go. However, when I listen objectively (which is hard to do), I still hear some problems. The speech therapist does as well and the evaluator did today too. I was actually pretty convinced she wasn't going to qualify because the school in-take coordinator spent a great deal of time and energy making me feel like it was all in my head, but the evaluator read all the papers I brought from First Steps, tested and listened to her, and talked to me about everything I've been seeing. At the end, she was said we would set up a meeting in 2 weeks to go over her recommendations and discuss all the paperwork. I asked if we would find out then if she qualified and the evaluator said she did qualify for sure. What a relief! I was preparing to be okay with it if she didn't qualify but the idea of trying to fix the rest of her speech problems alone was a little concerning to me. Now I don't have to worry!
Oh and on our way home, I signed her up for Tues/Thurs 3 year old preschool for next year at Holy Cross! She's going to love it!
