Ice, Ice Baby

We started out getting a little snow. It was kind of nice - something for the kids to play in.

However, that rapidly changed on Monday night when the ice started. Not only did the ice start, but it continued, all through Tuesday. By Tuesday night, we had probably about an inch an a half of solid ice. I've never seen anything like it. If we had gotten the 12 inches of snow they had orginally thought we might get instead, we would have had it cleared and done in 2 days. Instead, school (and pretty much everything else) remained closed for 4 days. The sidewalks were too icy, the parking lots were a skating rink, and the school buses (and anything else unfortunate enough to be outside in this) were frozen in place. We didn't even try to leave the house until the 4th day and even then, I had to back up and get a running start with my vehicle to get back up the driveway on the way home. Everything was slippery and it even froze our trash cans - that we had put out on Monday in hopes the trash would come - to the ground. Yikes. On the bright side, the kids had a great time ice skating on our driveway, minus the ice skates, of course.

Yes, Rob is standing on our frozen solid bushes:

Hannah and I ventured out first while Rob recorded and Hailey stood in the doorway with him. Apparently she found the entire thing hysterical. About 2/3 the way through the video, you will hear her run off - she went to go get shoes in hopes that we would let her go out to play too if she put them on. We did, once we exchanged the white dress shoes she brought for boots and put on her coat:

Oh and today is Rob's 30th birthday so Happy Birthday honey!!! :)
