Songs For The Kids

The song "Suddenly I See" by KT Tunstall will always make me think of Hannah.  It came out in 2005, but it didn't hit the charts here in the US until 2006.  Hannah was a baby when I first heard this song and the lyrics really spoke to me.  She was (and is) such a beautiful girl and easily captivated me.  I remember that she seemed larger than life to me.  Just looking at her made me want to be a better person.

The song that makes me think of Hailey is "Never Grow Up" by Taylor Swift.  This song was released in 2010, when Hailey was just around a year old.  It was easy to stare at her while rocking her or tucking her in and think how much I wanted her to stay little for forever.  I could see her eyelids fluttering as she dreamed and imagine what it would be like 10 and 20 years from now.

The song makes me think of Logan is "Something New" by Tom Fletcher.  It wasn't even on the radio; I saw it as a repost on Facebook but instantly loved it.  It makes me think of how I was a bit nervous about having a boy.  Everything felt set and normal around here raising girls, and when they told me he was a boy, I remember thinking how different that felt.  I was scared but also ready to try this new thing.  I also thought it was ironic that he mentions April, May, and June since those are the months that all the kids are born in.

Song For Hailey

Never Grow Up
By: Taylor Swift

Your little hand's wrapped around my finger
And it's so quiet in the world tonight
Your little eyelids flutter cause you're dreaming
So I tuck you in, turn on your favorite night light
To you everything's funny, you got nothing to regret
I'd give all I have, honey
If you could stay like that

Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
I won't let nobody hurt you, won't let no one break your heart
And no one will desert you
Just try to never grow up, never grow up

You're in the car on the way to the movies
And you're mortified your mom's dropping you off
At 14 there's just so much you can't do
And you can't wait to move out someday and call your own shots
But don't make her drop you off around the block
Remember that she's getting older too
And don't lose the way that you dance around in your pj's getting ready for school

Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
No one's ever burned you, nothing's ever left you scarred
And even though you want to, just try to never grow up

Take pictures in your mind of your childhood room
Memorize what it sounded like when your dad gets home
Remember the footsteps, remember the words said
And all your little brother's favorite songs
I just realized everything I have is someday gonna be gone

So here I am in my new apartment
In a big city, they just dropped me off
It's so much colder that I thought it would be
So I tuck myself in and turn my night light on

Wish I'd never grown up
I wish I'd never grown up

Oh I don't wanna grow up, wish I'd never grown up
I could still be little
Oh I don't wanna grow up, wish I'd never grown up
It could still be simple
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
Won't let nobody hurt you
Won't let no one break your heart
And even though you want to, please try to never grow up
Oh, don't you ever grow up
Oh, never grow up, just never grow up

Song For Hannah

Suddenly I See
By: KT Tunstall

Her face is a map of the world, is a map of the world
You can see she's a beautiful girl, she's a beautiful girl
And everything around her is a silver pool of light
People who surround her feel the benefit of it, it makes you calm
She holds you captivated in her palm

Suddenly I see this is what I wanna be
Suddenly I see why the hell it means so much to me
Suddenly I see this is what I wanna be
Suddenly I see why the hell it means so much to me

And I feel like walking the world, like walking the world
And you can hear she's a beautiful girl, she's a beautiful girl
She fills up every corner like she's born in black and white
Makes you feel warmer when you're trying to remember what you heard
She likes to leave you hanging on a word

Suddenly I see this is what I wanna be
Suddenly I see why the hell it means so much to me
Suddenly I see this is what I wanna be
Suddenly I see why the hell it means so much to me

And she's taller than most and she's looking at me
I can see her eyes looking from the page of a magazine
She makes me feel like I could be a tower, big strong tower yeah
The power to be, the power to give, the power to see, yeah yeah

Suddenly I see this is what I wanna be
Suddenly I see why the hell it means so much to me
Suddenly I see cause this is what I wanna be
Suddenly I see why the hell it means so much to me

Song For Logan

Something New
By: Tom Fletcher

It's just another sunrise on another day
Just another rainbow, well they're all the same
Let me guess a sunset, followed by the moon
I think I'm ready for something new

It's just another love song about another girl
Just another movie where they save the world
And every roller coaster does a loop-de-loop
I guess I'm ready for something new

I'm not saying life is boring; just predictable sometimes
When you know the end of every other line is going to rhyme
After every eight you're always going to find a nine
February second will be cold outside

I predict a summer that isn't very long
Then before you know it, we're singing Christmas songs
Then we get another April, May, and June
I think I'm ready for something new

I'm not saying life is boring cause it's beautiful sometimes
Like the feeling when you're falling; it's like walking on the sky
There will come a morning you won't open up your eyes
But it's what you do until that day arrives

You want to touch a mountain or taste the waterfall
You only have to see one then you've seen them all
I'm gonna bet tomorrow that the sky is blue
I guess I'm ready- I think I'm ready - I hope I'm ready for something new

Working On Walking

Someone discovered last night that he could walk behind a toy!

Waving for the camera:

Concentrating on walking:

Huge smile - I did it!

9 Months Old

Logan has his 9 month appointment today - 21lbs 13oz (85th) and 30 inches (97th).  His head was the 90th, which is the least it has ever been.  Ha!  He can sit, stand, clap, crawl, cruise, wave, open books, put toys into a box/bin, play peek-a-boo, bang objects together, use a sippy cup, plays with toys, crawls up a few stairs, recognizes his name, holds up his arms to be picked up, crawls to you when you call him, walks holding your hands, say "mama," feed himself, and only gets up once at night.  He didn't even notice the one shot they gave him.  He's doing great!

Friday Funny

Hannah: It's not like I want detention.
Me: What?  What do you mean by "detention?"
Hannah: The opposite of attention.

After listening to the Miley Cyrus song "Wrecking Ball"
Hannah: It goes "I came in like a raindrop."
Hailey: No, I think it goes "I came in like a rock star."

Hannah: Why does that billboard on the side of the road say "don't drive naked" and have a picture of a naked woman?
Me: Ugh, well some advertisers have no sense about what is inappropriate.
Hannah: I know!  Don't they know that grandmas drive by here?

Crawling, Crawling, Crawling!

Logan has been army crawling for probably 3 months now but he has recently been up on all fours rocking (and occasionally going a step or two forward that way before resorting to the army crawl), so I knew regular crawling was coming.  I had actually turned on the video camera to see if I could get him saying "mama" since it is clear as day now.  Instead, I got the first time he ever crawled regularly without dropping back down.  Here it is:

The funny thing is that after this yesterday morning, he hasn't army crawled again.  It is like a light suddenly turned on and he decided he wasn't going back to that old way.  As a funny note though, he has always liked putting things in his mouth (particularly socks) and he got into the clean clothes last night.  Here he is, transporting a sock with him while he crawls and stands:

Now if only I can teach him to put the socks in the correct drawer!
