Hannah was insisting that she was the Mommy (in a fruitless effort to get out of naptime) and I was so amused that I started asking her questions. Here was our conversation:
Me: So you're a Mommy?
Hannah: Yes I am.
Me: How old were you when you got pregnant?
Hannah: I was really old. Like 6 or 9.
Me: How did the baby get in your tummy?
Hannah: Jesus gave me the baby and he put it in my tummy.
Me: How big was your tummy?
Hannah: It was thiiiiiis big (hold arms out as far as they can go).
Me: What was your favorite part about your baby?
Hannah: Feeding her.
Me: How do you feed a baby?
Hannah: With your cheek.
Me: How did the baby get out?
Hannah: Through my chest and tummy.
Me: Where did you go to have your baby?
Hannah: I went to a baby shower.

Baby Babble And More
Hailey has been talking a lot more recently. She does try to repeat a lot of things you say, but I have not been counting that in her vocab unless she says it on her own and more than once. Right now, she says the following words: hi, dada, hot, die (still no idea what "hot" or "die" mean to her so maybe they shouldn't count but she says them a lot!), uh-oh, mama, yes, sissy, yum, up, this, that, thanks, look, tickle, eyes, pretty, bye-bye, Hannah, whee, and baby. She also has three phrases: what is this (wa i dis), look at this (loo a dis), and thank you (ank uu). The new words she has added she uses in correct context and her old words are becoming more and more clear to others. Yesterday we walked up to our neighbors and Hailey yelled "hi" as clear as day while waving. She still tends to defer to Hannah while Hannah is around but once Hannah leaves, she likes to fill the void in sound by babbling to herself.
Beyond that, Hailey now uses a fork and spoon at every meal. She also runs pretty much nonstop and prefers to be moving constantly, including bouncing and climbing. She follows instructions well and likes to try to color like big sis, although she often ends up using the crayons on the table and walls and other undesirable places. She crawls up and down the steps like a champ and even walks up and down them if it's just a few steps. We are working on body parts and she can point to her belly button, nose, eyes, and mouth and stick out her tongue if you ask where her tongue is. She loves the game chase, even chasing and catching you now (instead of you just chasing and catching her). She has also started playing hide and seek. If you hide, she will happily come find you and giggle.
Hailey and Hannah have created a few "fun" new games of their own. They have three favorites right now. In the first, Hailey wraps her arms around Hannah's waist, buries her head in Hannah's back, and Hannah runs around. In the second, Hannah pulls Hailey around in a laundry basket or the bin that holds all the blocks. In the third, Hannah holds one end of her kitty blanket while Hailey holds the other end and Hannah again runs around. All three games are sure to leave both kids laughing hysterically.
I'll leave you with a few pictures of our growing girl.
Here she is holding her favorite toy, her stuffed elephant:

Reading
Hannah and I have been working on words. She knows how to write all the letters and has recently begun to memorize some small words. Right now she can spell Hannah, hot, and zoo from memory. She also loves asking me to spell words for her so she can write them. Today we were working on phonics, trying to help her read (which she is on the edge of since she knows all the sounds the letters make). Anyway, I spelled HAT for Hannah and she wrote out each letter as I said them. Then I asked what each letter makes and she told me. Then I asked if she knew what that word said. She proudly announced "it says turtle!" She is doing great, but I guess we still have a little work to do. ;)

First Day Of Pre-K
Hannah's first day of pre-K was today. I was anticipating the worst since she spent all morning upset that she wasn't going to have her same teacher or same class as last year, but she did great. We got there early so we could do the sign in and the picture that they keep on file. We met one new friend in her class in line but Hannah wasn't too chatty and I eventually stopped trying to make her talk to the little boy and focused on talking about how much fun she would have. She seemed more at ease once we got in to the actual hallway and she recognized the classroom she would be in. It also helps that the teacher's aide (who she also adored) will be in that class. She became a little shy when I started to leave but I went back in and took her over to the toys and she was fine. No tears, no problems. Well Mommy was a little choked up but otherwise we were good.
Here is the classic first day picture:
Since it was a little blurry and she wasn't giving her normal big cute smile, here's more:

On a similar note, Hailey is currently happily playing with all the toys that Hannah doesn't usually want her to play with.

Friday Funny
Hannah was watching Cinderella and when the evil step sisters told Cinderella that she couldn't go to the ball because she didn't have the right dress, Hannah turned to my mom and said "well at least they told her the truth."
Guess our discussions on how it's important to tell the truth haven't been wasted....
