B-A-B-Y Spells Hailey!

Hannah and I talk about letters, look at letters, and she loves to watch SuperWhy (which is a show about letters and reading) but I didn't think it had really sunk in yet. Today I was standing in Hailey's nursery, changing her diaper, and Hannah wandered in. She walked over to a little 2 peg coat hanger that says "baby" on it. She then proceded to say "B-A-B-Y" as she pointed to each of the letters. Yay, what a big girl! It's the first time that I have seen her correctly identify all the letters of a word on her own without me telling her what they were first. Of course, then she smile proudly after naming the letters and said "that spells Hailey!". Hehe, we'll work on reading later. :)

2 Months

Hailey had her 2 month appointment last week. She is now 12lbs 15oz and 23.5 inches, which is the 90th percentile for both. She wears 3-6 month clothing. She is smiling, cooing, swinging closed fists at toys, tracking as you walk across a room, and grasping things when they get close to her hand. She is not a fan of tummy time but is pushing up and lifting her head off the ground well when she is in a good enough mood to tolerate it. She is having issues with her left neck muscle. It is tight and causing her to hold her head to the right, which is flattening one side of her head. She will be receiving physical therapy to help correct this so she doesn't end up in one of those awful helmets until age 1. The doctor said this happens a lot to babies who sleep well (go figure) but my mother-in-law brought up a good point about it possibly relating to the shoulder dystocia. Definitely something to ask since this problem was actually originally brought to our attention at her 1 month appointment, meaning she has probably had it since birth. It has just gotten worse since then. :( Anyways, everything else about the appointment went well. She got 2 shots and an oral vaccine and she only cried for about 3 seconds. We will see the pediatrician back in a month to reevaluate the back of her head.

Zoo Fun!

We went to the zoo a few weeks ago with my friend Amy and her daughter Abby and had a blast. I took a ton of pictures but I'll just include a few of my favorites.
Here is Hannah right before she touched a shark. I let her try (thinking for sure she wouldn't be able to reach far enough to actually pet one) and not only did she pet the shark but if I hadn't pulled her arm back, she would have actually grabbed it. This is the perfect example of how fearless our preschooler has recently become - I was a little freaked out by touching the sharks but she just stuck her arm right in. Glad I was there to pull it back or that may have hurt!

Here we are looking at giraffes. Hannah wanted to feed them her goldfish crackers - don't worry, I didn't let her. She sure does love to share these days (sometimes ;))!

Hailey had a great time too (sleeping, that is). I don't think she opened her eyes even once.

Since I bought Hannah a stuffed animal from the zoo the first time that she ever went, I bought Hailey one since it was her first time. Of course, Hannah was over a year old before we went to the zoo for the first time, so she was able to help pick out the animal that was her favorite. This time, we went with a cute pink penguin because the penguins were really giving us a show when we saw them. They were diving and hopping out of the water and there were even some cute baby penguins. I got it in pink because it was cute - a cute stuffed penguin for a cute baby.
