3 Years In Review

As my little girl turns 3, it's amazing to think of all the ways she has grown and changed over the last 3 years.

Height/weight:

~At birth she was 8lbs 6oz and 21.5 inches

~At age 1, she was 21lbs 5oz and 31 inches

~At age 2, she was 29lbs 6oz and 37 inches

~At age 3, she is 33lbs 3oz and 40 inches

Physical features:

~At birth her hair was dark brown and had a red tint to it. Her eyes were blue grey.

~At age 1, her hair was blond and there was only a very very small amount of it. It's even hard to see in pictures. Her eyes were bright blue and she had 6 teeth.

~At age 2, her hair was blond but had a little bit of a red tint to it. It also had a little bit of a wave/flip to it. She still didn't have enough to even warrant a trim, but it was finally coming in. Her eyes were still clear blue. She had all her first year teeth but no second year molars in sight.

~At age 3, her hair is still blond with a red tint. It definitely has a curl/flip to it at the bottom which when you let it grow, looks crazy cute (or sometimes just crazy). She has had a trim and 2 haircuts now. Her eyes are still a beautiful blue. She finally started getting her second year molars about 3 months ago - she has 2 of them in now and we are still waiting on the other 2.

Milestones:

~At birth she was good at nursing, sleeping, and making dirty diapers.

~At age 1, she could crawl, say 3 words, drink out of a sippy cup, stand up, walk holding onto things, turn pages in a book, eat in a high chair, and feed herself with finger foods.

~At age 2, she could walk, run, jump, do a somersault, throw a ball, kick a ball, feed herself with silverware, open doors, drink out of a regular cup, walk up and down stairs alone, sleep in a toddler bed, eat in a booster seat, sing a few songs, count to 10, put on/take off some of her clothes, answer simple questions, follow instructions, talk on the phone, choose between 2 options, name objects and body parts, say about 400-500 words, and talk in 3-4 word sentences.

~At age 3, she can do all the things she could do at age 2, but better. She runs faster, jumps higher, throws a ball with aim, etc. She can climb, ride a bike with training wheels, stand on one foot, and hop. She no longer uses a booster seat at the table and can climb into the car and strap herself into her carseat. She sings more songs than I can remember, counts to 30, recognizes some letters, negotiates, knows how to share, recognizes when something is different or isn't right, knows all her colors and shapes, sings the alphabet, recites her favorite books/stories, answers questions from adults and kids, talks to other kids, plays with other kids, pretend plays, makes up songs/words/stories, wants to do things by herself, understands good vs bad, knows consequences, draws circles and straight lines, and problem solves. She is fully potty trained. She can say her name, Mommy & Daddy's name, her age, and her gender. She can open the refrigerator to get out food, get her own water from the dispenser, help put away dishes and laundry, open doors, dress and undress herself, wash her hands, wash herself off in the shower, and brush her hair and teeth. She asks tons of questions about why and how things are the way they are, asks permission for things, says please and thank you, states favorites, gives opinions, tells feelings, remembers things from months ago, and talks in paragraphs (as my mother-in-law puts it). She helps with Hailey by bringing me things I ask for, sings when Hailey is crying, shows her toys, and throws away diapers.

Friday Funny

Thanks to big sister Hannah, Hailey has all kinds of toys to play with. Hannah is not swayed in the least by my insistence that Hailey is too young to play with toys so Hailey constantly has toys sitting on her and near her. Hannah has put jewelry on her, given her countless stuffed animals and teethers, and in fact Hailey currently has a Hello Kitty watch on her wrist. Here is a picture after I told Hannah that Hailey was too little to play in the ball jumper with her. She decided to bring the balls to Hailey (and only gave her orange balls because it matched her outfit):

Hey at least Hannah is sharing...

Hailey's Baby Dedication (Mother's Day)

Our church does baby dedications on Mother's Day. Since Hannah was born about a week and a half after Mother's Day (and our church didn't exist when she was born), we had her dedicated when she was almost a year old. Hailey was almost exactly a month old at her baby dedication. Hailey slept through the whole thing. The pastor spoke about how one of the meanings of her name is "guide" and asked God to grant her that. He then prayed for all the families to raise their children with God's help. It was a beautiful service and we were so lucky to have almost all our family and some of our close friends there. My dad took the pictures at the actual service with his camera so I don't have them yet but here are some pictures at the little party we had afterwards for Hailey's dedication/Mother's Day.

1 Month And 3 Year Check-ups

I took the girls today for their well-baby/well-child visits. Here are the stats:

Hailey: 11.3lbs and 23 inches
Hannah: 33.2lbs and 40 inches

Hailey looks great. She's obviously a big girl and getting more than enough to eat. The doctor is a little concerned that she tends to choke at the end of her feedings (could be a sign of reflux) and that she continues to projectile spit-up her entire meal once a day but she gave a few suggestions to try before we start any testing or medication for that. Hailey apparently is favoring one side of her head and since she sleeps so much, she is getting a little bit of a flat spot. The doctor recommended tummy time 4 times a day for 10 minutes each and 4 times a day of an exercise that should help. She also said to make sure we are holding her whenever she is awake but we were already doing that, she's just not awake a lot. The doctor says bigger babies tend to be sleepier babies and that's definitely been true for both girls as infants.

Hannah is doing great. She had her blood pressure taken, got to stand for her height instead of laying down, and had her eyes checked by reading an eye chart. The doctor said she has the size, understanding, and vocabulary of a 4 year old and is doing very well. The doctor even got to see Hannah problem solve after she couldn't get up on the table and decided to drag a chair over so she could climb on it.

Hannah had fun playing with the doctor and got a ton of stickers and a sucker. Hailey just got a shot. Seems a little unfair, huh? ;)

Here's a picture from today of our girls holding their cute animal blankies (that have their names on it) from Aunt Sarah & Uncle Paul:
