2 Year Well-Child Visit

Yes she is no longer going for well-baby visits, now it's well-child visits. I don't care what they say, she's still my baby. ;) Anyways, here's an in-depth run-down of all the info we received today.

The doctor said her language skills were extremely advanced and all her other skills were right on target. Hannah was nice enough to sing "ring around the rosie" for the doctor and basically continued to talk through the entire appointment, so the doctor got quite an earful of her "language skills". She was impressed that Hannah sleeps in a big girl bed and that the transition went so smoothly (then said that this would never happen again with future children, so be aware).

We are free to switch her to whatever type of milk we drink (skim) and that since she loved her fruits and vegis so much, no vitamins are necessary. All foods are fine, but be aware of choking hazards. Unfortunately the doctor named grape tomatoes as a chocking hazard and Hannah spent the next few minutes begging for her favorite food. Mommy learned long ago never to say the word tomato around Hannah unless there are some to give her.

I asked a few questions concerning her belly button, freckles/moles, car seat, and potty training and got the following answers. Her belly button seems fine and may just be an outie. No cause for concern on the umbilical hernia front and the doctor was shocked that I had my first umbilical hernia at age 20 (as was the surgeon who fixed it). I asked about her freckles and moles and was told to just look for strange ones and then she gave a way to remember if they are weird. Something about ABCD - obviously very effective since I already forgot what each of those stood for. ;) She said Hannah will most likely need a new carseat soon due to height and it needs to be a 5 point harness still so yay for spending more money on yet another seat. She recommended no pull-ups for potty training (straight to big girl underwear) and thinks that Hannah sounds ready based on the fact that she asks to sit on the potty, asks for her diaper to be changed, and can take off her own pants and diaper.

Now on to the stats. She was 29.4lbs and came in at a whooping 37". They still measure her head circumferance which was 18.5". They also do a new measurement at age 2, which is BMI, and hers was around 15. For those of you who like percentiles, the doctor's measurements put her in the 80% for weight, off the charts (99%+) for height, 35% for head circumfurance, and 20% for BMI. She said that all the stats show that Hannah is on the thin (and tall) side, but that it is of no concern and of no shock since she "comes by it honestly" as the doctor put it. Here was the big shocker for the day though - the doctor doubled Hannah's height and said her predicted height is 6'2! Now there is no way I believe this for even a second because I was a half inch shorter than Hannah (36.5") at my 2 year appointment and am only 5'8 but that was still surprising to hear! :o The two online predictors that I tried had her at 5'9 and 5'11, much closer to what I would think she will be. Either way, she will definitely be a tall girl! I myself think she'll be around 5'9 or 5'10 - I guess we'll see in about 16 years!

No shots today and no more shots until age 4. She has a 2.5 year well-child visit in Novemeber. Everything went great!

2 Years In Review

As my little girl turns 2, it's amazing to think of all the ways she has grown and changed over the last 2 years.

Height/weight:

~At birth she was 8lbs 6oz and 21.5 inches

~At age 1, she was 21lbs 5oz and 31 inches

~At age 2, she is 29lbs 6oz and 37 inches

Physical features:

~At birth her hair was dark brown and had a red tint to it. Her eyes were blue grey.

~At age 1, her hair was blond and there was only a very very small amount of it. It's even hard to see in pictures. Her eyes were bright blue and she had 6 teeth.

~At age 2, her hair is blond but has a little bit of a red tint to it. It also has a little bit of a wave/flip to it. She still doesn't have enough to even warrant a trim, but it's finally coming in. Her eyes are still clear blue. She has all her first year teeth but no second year molars in sight.

Milestones:

~At birth she was good at nursing, sleeping, and making dirty diapers.

~At age 1, she could crawl, say 3 words, drink out of a sippy cup, stand up, walk holding onto things, turn pages in a book, eat in a high chair, and feed herself with finger foods.

~At age 2, she can walk, run, jump, do a somersault, throw a ball, kick a ball, feed herself with silverware, open doors, drink out of a regular cup, walk up and down stairs alone, sleep in a toddler bed, eat in a booster seat, sing a few songs, count to 10, put on/take off some of her clothes, answer simple questions, follow instructions, talk on the phone, choose between 2 options, name objects and body parts, say about 400-500 words, and talk in 3-4 word sentences.
